Minister of Word, Sacrament and Pastoral Care
The United Church of Canada
Preaching the Word of God, Administering the Sacraments as Means of Grace, visiting the sick and infirm, encouraging the faithful, joyfully at play in the green pastures of the Good Shepherd.
I’m Blair – technically I’m The Reverend Blair R. Paterson, B.A., M.Div. – but most people just know me as Blair. I’ve been a part of Christ Church United since March 2024.
Before that I was the minister of the South Mountain-Hallville Pastoral Charge (St. Andrew’s UC, Hallville; St. Andrew’s UC, Heckston; Inkerman UC & Mountain-South Mountain UC); and before that I was the minister of St. Paul’s United Church in Prescott; AND before that I was the minister of the Bonne Bay Pastoral Charge i.e., Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland: St. Luke’s UC, Norris Point; Wesley UC, Rocky Harbour; Shoal Brook UC; Trout River UC; and, St. Andrew’s UC, Woody Point – and BEFORE THAT I was the student minister at the Bathurst Pastoral Charge just west of Perth ON as I was attending Queen’s Theological College (Calvin UC, Dewitt’s Corners; Althorpe UC; Bolingbroke UC)
Phew! To paraphrase the Man in Black Johnny Cash: “I’ve preached everywhere, man!” In my 30 years in paid accountable ministry God has blessed me with many faithful folks along the way who have taught me a great many things about the love of Jesus and how to share that love.
The most important priority for Rev. Blair’s ministry has been the emphasis on Joy, having fun and play because the Gospel is called “Good” News! – Glad Tidings of Great Joy I believe is what the Angel said to the Shepherds in Luke 2. So at times I’m a little goofy; at other times I’m outrageous – foolish even. I make mistakes, and I hope I say sorry enough.
God asks all of us to be faithful, not perfect – So I hope that you will share your faithful witness with the rest of us ragamuffins so that together we can share the joy, hope and love of Jesus Christ with a world that desperately needs it.
And don’t worry – when I say world – I don’t mean you have to become all “Billy Graham”-esque. Nope. You are called by God to share Love with those around you – your world: family, friends, co-workers and even people you don’t really like.
So welcome to the Website of the Sinners and Saints who call Christ Church United their spiritual home. The poet Gerard Manley Hopkins once wrote that “Christ plays in Ten Thousand places” – well, lets go and try to find some of those places together.
